Register a dsn in coldfusion code

I've been on this for about a week now and It's bugging me because I know it's possible but I keep running into dead ends.  I'm trying to create and register a database in a coldfusion function.  I've copied new information into the service factory and the registry but I still haven't gotten anything to work yet.  
Anyone??  Come on I know someone knows how to make this work.
