Hmmm ... this happened to me yesterday too, but i'm running on Apache. Had
to do a hard reboot and it hasn't reoccured. I HOPE it's not a worm,
although the behavior reminds me of one circulating a year back or so.

Ok

So I found the solution to this problem but it does not make any sense to
me.

I removed the registry entry which SQL Enterprise Manager has which pointed
to a SQL Server which has gone down and is now disconnected to the network.

Now everything works again.

Explain that!
