On Windows, you can write administrative scripts in _javascript_. This is
pretty common for many administrative tasks. Likewise, there are lots of
Unix admins out there using shell scripting every day.

I wouldn't be surprised by that at all. Python rocks! It's rapidly becoming
a replacement for Perl, I think. Of course, you could argue that Ruby is
rapidly becoming a replacement for Python, as Python becomes more
mainstream.
