Paul,

My standard install has 158..
    12 for SLServer (ODBC connectivity)
    15 for JIntegra (com interoperability)
    62 for _nti40 (verity)
    49 for Java Runtime
3 for wsconfig (connection to IIS)
    1 for uninstall
    138 total
leaving 16 in the \lib and \runtime\bin, including windows-only commands
such as cfregistry and perfmon connectors, etc. Still, I didn't say all
DLLs are bad. Just that connecting them directly to CFM pages can be.

I agree that there are good reasons to have them, but personally, I
avoid all the reasons I can, especially on production, public-facing
boxes. We use your CFX_POP3. Great tag. It is the best one we've ever
had. I still wouldn't put it on our public-facing boxes.

As for your tags, I'm sure they're all very good because we've had great
luck with that one. Other people's, however, I wouldn't have so much
confidence. Perhaps my skepticism is just from sloppy coders.

I certainly do concede this point.
In the end, it comes down to meticulous development and testing
practices that win the day.

In the future, I'll make that, "Steer clear of C++ CFX tags, unless
they're Paul's." However, as far as debugging a shaky server, I stand by
turning off CFX tags, at least until the problem is found.
