I was going to mention this - if the host gives you an RDS password, change hosts immediately.
RDS opens up every datasource to you, regardless of sandboxing. It also open up file access (as Mike mentioned) and it simply isn't suitable for a hosted environment. Even in our closed-shop, 3 tier dev/test/prod environment, RDS is disabled on each tier. We can only use it via our personal desktop dev servers. -----Original Message----- From: Mike Kear [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, 18 December 2004 9:53 To: CF-Talk Subject: Re: data source on hosted servers Do hosting providers turn this feature on? I dont think I've worked on any site that's ever had RDS turned on because of the open invitation if gives to the entire disk drive. I mean hosted site or in-house site. The only time I've seen RDS turned on is on my own Development site which is entirely inside my home network and not visible to the outside. What do the rest of you do? Do you turn RDS on? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Special thanks to the CF Community Suite Gold Sponsor - CFHosting.net http://www.cfhosting.net Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:188125 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
