I'm using VMWare Workstation on my laptop, and I have to say, it ROCKS!
Instead of having to fire up several services to get a development 'server'
going, I just start my virtual machine and I'm off and running. When I shut
down, I just 'pause' the virtual machine and it recalls exactly where it was
without requiring a full virtual machine start. I've set it up so I have
snapshots and can back out of any tinkering (pseudo backup) and even used
the built in recording process to record to an avi for how I'm accomplishing
a specific configuration task.

At a price point under $200, you really can't beat the versatility and
usefulness of the product.

One excellent feature I forgot to mention was, you can take the
"image" file of the OS and redistribute it.

Once I was asked to reconfigure a corporate LAN and implement a VPN
between each office. They sent me a vmware image of each of their
servers and I was able to emulate the whole thing and create a
step-by-step process for setting it up. I went onsite, followed the
steps and it worked perfectly, the first time. :)
