I can tell you from personal experience that you might think you know a lot about SQL Server until you take one of the practice exams and you start seing quations about stored procedures you never even heard of, or read a question where all the answers are correct but 1 is the most correct. The MSCDBA exams are very tough. I am sure it helps to have hands on experience but I guess you could make a case for learning the MS way from the getgo and not have to break bad habits or less efficient ways of doing things.
