Ian, Do you have any more details about MM and AT&T regarding this? Is this something I can contact MM about, or would I need to contact a provider like AT&T or Verizon myself?

You will need to negotiate a contract with a provider to send messages to real devices. Just as many of us have to pay a Web hosting provider to send webpage's to others.
