http://www.webpasties.com/xmlHttpRequest/ is one of the easiest intros
to the xmlHTTPRequest that i've come across.

And to Sean's point...yes, it's like DHTML in that DHTML itself is not
a technology, but a mix of existing technologies (in the case of
DHTML, JS and CSS).
