For info to everyone - I have now established that the CSR file in IIS4 certs is different to that in IIS5 certs - so you cannot transfer any certs from IIS 4 to IIS5. This of course despite being told I can and despite spending hours with MS support as a chargeable incident. Also intersting because now BT Trustwise/Versign will now want $1000's from me to re-purchase all my still valid certificates. Just thought it is worth making a note of for anyone wanting to go from IIS4 to IIS5 - factor in the certificate cost.
