Hey! These are some great ideas!  I will run these ideas past mgt and
see what they say.

We have been toying with the notion of an "idle" screen that can appear
after a certain number of seconds.  We are not sure if the people will
want to clear the screen before they make a call, however.

I don't know if it's a big deal up there, but the Ozone alert level
would be good here in Dallas and I'm sure the weather and forecast would
be a hit anywhere. You may even be able to show the level of the Ohio
during a big storm. If you were in the land of peaks and powder you
might do a snowfall / base monitor.  If you have an internal job board
or something similar, you may be able to display those postings there or
at least a "featured" internal opening. Employee "Happy Birthdays" comes
to mind as does a congratulation to X for doing Y type of deal. If this
is for U of E, you might even want to do a recap of the results of
whatever Purple Aces team played the night before?
