I built a light-weight web mail client that I use to check my own mail accounts, but it's POP3 only and I haven't built any server-side folder system to hold mail. I've just released a new version that uses CSS and JS for dynamic effects, and I'm planning on turning it into an Ajax app, although the UI in the current released version is so lightweight that client-side XMLHTTP will hardly make a difference in how it runs.
