I use Massimo's tmt_img 2.0 (http://www.olimpo.ch/tmt/cfc/tmt_img/) and it's great if what you need to do is crp/resize images. It's all CFC so no custom tags, nothing to configure. Oh, and it's free.
I extended it to add a "max size" that resizes so that no dimension is greater than the passed in value, which makes it even more invaluable for me.
