to make sure its not the xml at fault, you could dump the string you
bring in first and make sure it looks okay.  Plus, this will tell you
if you are actually getting the right file  (or a file at all) as
well.

but what are you using to bring the xml in?  <cffile action="read"> I
suppose?  if the file wasn't there, wouldn't cffile throw an error?
