I think it should be a language feature. Same thing happened with everybody writing a custom tag to do the same thing they finally did with CFSAVECONTENT. Just feels too basic to not be included in the core language somehow.
But it was fun to have the lightbulb go off in my head. I'd been doing an iterative solution like that UDF in cflib for a couple months and then it just kind of hit me how unnecessary that was!
