I think you're right about Google's motivations with Analytics.  If they
could get a huge portion of the web to use Analytics, can you imagine
the possibilities of all that previously unattainable data?  Browser
stats, true site popularity numbers, better web indexing, etc..

I for one think this could be a huge boon to the IT industry, because
for once we could have a company big enough to gather those kind of
aggregate stats, and hopefully share them with the rest of us.  :)
