Something I used to do when I was using PostGres years ago was select a new identity from a table and then use it for all subsequent updates. People tell me you can't do this with SQL Server, but I think this is BY FAR the safest way to handle this. Here's some pseudo code for clarity:
select new id as @identity from users update users set fname = 'jake', lname = 'munson' where id = @identity ------------ [INFO] -- Access Manager: This transmission may contain information that is privileged, confidential and/or exempt from disclosure under applicable law. If you are not the intended recipient, you are hereby notified that any disclosure, copying, distribution, or use of the information contained herein (including any reliance thereon) is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
