I'm amazed people missed this - the entire internet has been discussing the ActiveX activation patent case for ages.
Anyway, you are stuck with it as it is a feature now required by law. If your own pages are suffereing, a number of fixes have been posted to this list over the last few weeks and these will be in the archives.
