There is indeed a big difference in what you must do (like make backups) and especially in what you must not do (like run ET). But you said there was a lot more to *learn* to run a server. Isn't your development environment a close approximation of your production environment? So what do you need to learn to run a server in production that you do not need to learn in a development environment?
