I sort ALL of my mailing lists into separate folders (or, in Gmail, labels).
If I didn't, my inbox would be overwhelmed by it. I usually read mailing list mail during my down times. Anything that's in my inbox was sent directly to me and I usually need to act on it relatively soon.
