Hey everyone, I just joined this list about a week ago and it's been very informative. There seems to be a lot of people on here that have a lot of knowledge so I'd like to ask for some recommendations.
I've been programming in CF for about 3 years now but I have only recently started playing around with frameworks and OO programming. I got my degree in CIS (Computer Information Systems) but I find that it didn't help me much with what I'm doing now because it was half computers classes and half business classes - and only 2 programming classes. I should have gotten a Computer Science degree but I didn't know exactly what I'd be doing. I'm the webmaster now for the University where I graduated from and I've decided that I want to pursue web development as my career. However, I feel as though I haven't learned any programming basics, such as Object Oriented programming and how to correctly think about it. It was very evident when I read Hal Helms article on Creating OO Presentation Layers in the May CF Development Journal. I'd really like to make sure that I have learned the fundamentals before I continue learning new languages and developing more applications. So my question would be this: What books, tutorials, or resources would you recommend that a beginning programmer should read that would 1) give him the best foundation in programming and 2) save him from headaches and trouble down the road. So basically, what do you know now that you wish you knew back at the beginning of your career, and how should I go about learning that? Thanks in advance, Peter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:245383 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
