I believe "&" and "," are valid characters for a dollar amount. If you
don't want them in your database, it is up to you to strip them out.
Just use a little regex.

Subject: Validating $ and comma with cfinput validation

I've been attempting to remove the $ and comma from an inserted salary
field using validate="integer" in a cfinput statement with no luck.

The form allows $ and comma to be submitted to the database, which we
certainly don't want.

I'm wondering if this is a bug or is there something I'm missing or can
do additionally to validate the input?
