I've done the following with success.  Disclaimer- I have not tested across ALL 
browsers.

Put something like this in the form processing template:

<CFCOOKIE NAME="someCookie" VALUE="someValue" EXPIRES="1">
<CFHEADER NAME="refresh" VALUE="0; URL=#form.FromURL#">
<CFABORT>
