Yes, it's just another view of the same file, so if you change one half the
other is updated.  Personally I just use this feature for looking at two
different parts of the file, and I don't care to keep the 'old version' when
I make edits.  One weird thing, when you do make the edits in one side,
sometimes the other half jumps a bit and you have to scroll to find your
original location.
