First it returns anything in notes_to_the_record with the user id. Then the
internal or subquery returns anything from the shared database that has the
user id. But why does it have to do n.n_r_id IN? Is that just to append the
query and actually does no more filtering? Is having a subquery make it
automatically do a join since we no longer do it, but it still seems to join
fields?

Sorry to seem dense here but this new territory for me. I just want to make
sure that I can replicate the idea in the future.
