The "where" clause in your query is not correct.  It should be

<CFQUERY NAME="GetNews" DATASOURCE="#application.DSN#" >
SELECT      headline, news, blurb, date_entered, newsID, live
FROM         news
WHERE live = 'Yes'
ORDER by date_entered DESC
</CFQUERY>
