I have an app I wrote in PHP that scans pharmaceuticals in and I used the above javascript method to always set focus to the text box
I dont know of any other way for the browser to see the keys. I guess you could use a javascript event listener to watch for keystrokes but even then how would you determine it was the scanner or the user typing??
