I am not much of a MSSQL person but if you meet that limitation one day, can't you easily upgrade things into the full version?
I have been using Oracle XE for similar needs that you have and also for moving things to/from development workstations to our development/production environments without any issues. To top it off our servers are on 9i so they are one version behind the version of XE we are using.
