THanks Matthew, i know for sure it works because it's been working for at least two years on this server.
It's only since the advent of IE7 that it's giving problems. It still works fine with Firefox and IE6. SO the question is,, what's different about IE7 that makes it break? Axzadi's suggestion about doctypes is promising - that might well cause this issue. Anyone think of anything else i could look into?
