As Jordan already pointed out (thank you) you should give Razuna (http://www.razuna.com) a go. We mainly refer to it as a Digital Asset Management (DAM), but it also handles documents quite well. Meaning it will index a lot of documents for you as well and make them findable. To make it a "real document management" it has to feature versioning and check-in/check-out capabilities. This will most likely be a feature of 1.1.3 (but I cant promise it). We just released version 1.1.2 yesterday and it features Custom Fields, as such you can tag your documents with any Meta-Data you want. Of course, entries are indexed and thus findable again. If you have any questions please let me know (I am not actively monitoring this forum so your best thing is to head over to our forums http://forums.sixsigns.com or leave a comment at http://www.razuna.com). Thank you.
