i had almost the same problem, and could never solve it, even though my
ajax/js skills are well above basic.

instead of cfwindow i was trying to run the exact same plugin in a jQury
thickbox. never worked, no matter what changes to the code i made...
i resorted to putting the rate/update rating functionality in the main
window, and only displaying current avg rating in a pop-up thickbox,
without the ability to change it in thickbox window...

don't quiet remember now why exactly the plugin would not function in a
'window'... if i can dig it up someday, will post it here...
