The authentication error is a separate issue. The dot syntax should be 3. When I set up my linked server connection to Access in SQL Server 2005, I set the remote login to 'Admin' with no password (Linked Server properties, security tab). If I recall correctly, that is a default login for an Access database.

I feel like I am almost there. I am using four "." between the linked server name and the tablename but getting an error "Contains more than the maximum number of prefixes. Maximum is 3" .. I then dropped it to 3 "." and got an authentication error. I think I understnad the dot syntax but was thinking it should be three rather than 4. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:320411 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4
