thanks for your comments it is now seperating the 2 but the names were 
different the only thing we changed was:

<cfcomponent>
<cfset application.name = "Project1"/>

to

<cfcomponent>
<cfset this.name = "Project1"/>


why would changing it from 'application' to 'this' rectify this conflict
