Finally fixed! What a pain in the neck it is to talk to the verizon people.. had to go through quite a few people who don't understand that port 25 is needed. They opened it up and everything started working.. 26 hour outage.
Of course, that was right after I set up a relay account at socketlabs.com. they have the best rates that I found and easiest setup.. in case it happens to anyone else..
