I'd argue with that being better. Custom handlers for different responses allows you to tailor the reaction to failures either globally or case by case - you could open a new window with an error report, show a nice message for the user, do nothing, etc.
I'm sure that your ajaxGet and ajaxPost methods are well written and do their job - but using jQuery goes well beyond a couple of ajax methods as I'm sure you know. Have you used jQuery Claude? (Ray, that is who the nameless one is - name appears on the HOF site ;)?
