I know people who have horrible code readability and been in the same teams for 5-10 years. I have worked with a lot of different teams over the years and most of them the readability of the code appeared to be way down on their lists of things to be done. They quite often would state otherwise but when going through the code itself, their statements did not align up with what they actually did.
