Andrew, I believe you misread the original question. The author stated he was trying to find incorrect uses of pound signs in a code base. This is what he said:
"The errors are usually one of two things, either single pound signs in between cfoutputs (ie: font tag with color) or many places where the original programmers meant to use a variable but only put a pound sign on one side of the variable."
