Someone will correct me if I'm wrong as I haven't actually done this much less done it with Solr and I'm not sure what the limit is on a custom field (I assume you're talking about custom1, custom2 etc) but I believe you can stuff as much as you like in a custom field and depending on how you structure it you can treat the contents as a list and then do further work on that.
