I've integrated into Amazon using some of their AWS services, though not the API you're referencing. I believe they all pretty much work the same: you send Amazon a specifically formatted string, and HMAC encode it.
Look at the code inside of the AWS Console project on RIA Forge - I've used that one, and confirm that it works. It's split into a number of CFCs, so it should be pretty easy to pull out only what you need. I believe the S3 project referenced in the gist you posted is valid, but I can't comment on it as I've never used it.
