Java's NIO gives you that info, but requires JDK7.

If you're on Windows, you could use the File class to get that info: 
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.io.file.aspx

If on Linux or other *nix, you can use cfexecute and bash stat command, and 
parse the output.
