LOL, well that would require work on my part to come up with a meaningful reply to something. ;-) But that's what I ended up returning and it works perfectly now. Some day when I have more free time I may redo the whole thing to move it into remote method calls so that it matches all the other Ajax on the site but I needed a quick solution and this does the job.
