I'm pretty sure Google has the resources to develop such algorithms, would it be juste for the fun of it, but spammers in general have neither the ressources neither the time and probably no interest at all to develop character recognition algorithms, even on plain printed characters. For me, those completely scrambled characters as just ridiculous paranoïa.
