I would suspect that they guessed or "hacked" your account password to authenticate unless you are only relying on SSL to allow relaying. We get this all the time where over a period of months we see attempts to guess passwords on SMTP accounts then the low entropy passwords gets guessed and they authenticate and attempt to send out mail. Most of the time we catch it because we only allow local domains and accounts to forward email thru our outbound server.
