I am not sure if I will be pointing at the right direction, but you might
check into SourceOffSite -- it is a product, analogous to SourceSafe
(actually, on the server, it works on top of SourceSafe) that allows file
sharing over TCP/IP. We have been using it for months and it seems to be
working pretty well.
