Yes we are very sure it's the email server. We have tried several different
products that are supposed to bulk email through the SMTP server(MailMax).
Products such as RockCliff, ListMax, and WorldCast all send hundreds of
messages into the queue. If you open the folder that contains the queued
messages, we see that MailMax will send out some for a short time, but
cannot keep pace with the incoming messages. As the queued messages
increase, MailMax's outgoing messages slow to a crawl, until eventually it
stops.
I know that we could write an app that would help to throttle the number of
emails going into the queue, but this seems like a kluge fix. Why not just
get a server that can handle this on it's own?

Chris:
That is strange that the email server can not handle 100,000 emails. Is it
the email server that is crashing or are you sending them out with cf and
that is what is causing the crash. We send out to many different list for
our clients and we use different email server with each one. The only
problem we have ever had is with cfmail not being able to handle a lot of
email. We made a java tag to replace cfmail and have had no problems since
no matter what the size of the email.
