if you do something like this (you'll have to check the exact syntax - it's
been a long time since I had to do this):

<a href="mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject='A Test Message'">

This is a simple mailto anchor, but it populates the subject box for you.  I
beleive it's also possible to include your body text as well...
