Does anyone see a problem with this query?

I keep getting this error when I run the query. This is a SQL 2K 
database

ODBC Error Code = 37000 (Syntax error or access violation) 


[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Line 2: Incorrect syntax 
near '.'.



SELECT           topc.id,
                       topc.topics,
                       subt.id,
                       subt.topic_id,
                       subt.s_topics
FROM              topics AS topc
INNER JOIN     sub_topics 
AS                  subt 
ON                  topc.id = subt.id
WHERE           topc.id = subt.id
