Well, I hardly think he's the definitive voice of the future of Macromedia! In any case, there's no reason that a single IDE can't address the needs of both sorts of development - if you don't agree, take a look at VS.NET. Not all developers and designers will use all of the features in DW MX, but you're free to ignore the ones you don't need. I think it's interesting that DW MX has different "modes", one of which looks a bit like CF Studio, another of which looks like Dreamweaver 4. I'd be perfectly happy if MM produces a product that does all the things I need, plus a bunch of things I don't need but that the designer down the hall does need. Perhaps DW MX isn't yet that product. I think that it will be, though, and that it makes sense for MM to pursue a unified IDE. Finally, I think "any time soon" is probably accurate. After all, DW MX isn't even available yet, and it'll come bundled with Homesite+, and that will be out there for quite some time. A couple of years from now, maybe they'll be able to drop Homesite+ because all of the things we like about Studio will have been incorporated into DW MX ++. > C) Partners were no longer given free development tools. > (<-- correct me if this one is wrong, I remember some > uproar about this on the cf-partner list) This is true, I think, but a bit misleading. Instead of getting free development tools like Studio, we got free, full-featured versions of the server products that we could actually deploy on our public web sites! Not a bad trade, if you ask me - you can buy a few copies of Studio in exchange for one free CF 5 EE server license.
