Assuming it's not CFMX yes my experience shows it is vital to lock
Application, Session and Server vars.  With Session vars, frames can cause
problems and users getting impatient and clicking multiple times in the same
request are dangers.  User behavior is too unpredictable to take chances
with not locking and the consequences of corrupted memory are also
unpredictable and very, very debilitating.
