The difference in performance is negligible, except on the most stressed
applications.  I think the bigger issue is long term reliablity and
cost.  Even IBM said, then retracted, that their IDE drives should only
be run 8 hrs a day.  Not ideal for a server.  

We've got both, and have had no problems with the WD IDE drives.  Our
test boxes all run IDE, and they have been very reliable.
